HOW ARE PIGLETS SAVING LIVES?

Post-fistula women throughout Uganda receive the training necessary to raise and sell pigs. With recruiting two neighbors to help them build a zero-grazing shed, this microfinance project enables women who have been cast out from their community and families a second chance. Once the required training is completed, each post-fistula woman receives a high-quality piglet, six months of feed, and vaccinations for the piglet. As litters are produced, the piglets can be sold at a market to generate a sustainable income. Out of the first litter, one piglet is passed on to each of the two helpers. They, in turn, pay forward one female piglet out of their first litters back to the project making this microfinance project sustainable for many to come.

Women for Women has earmarked in August $762.69 for the piglet project as this month’s allocation.  THANK YOU!
