20 Stories. One Ripple Effect.
Every Ripple Has a Beginning.
What if the difference between a family living in poverty and a family building a brighter future wasn’t a lack of determination, but simply a lack of opportunity?
That question is at the heart of Microfinancing Partners in Africa (MPA).
In 2003, Sister Toni Temporiti traveled across Africa and witnessed the daily challenges facing families living in extreme poverty. She met women who worked tirelessly to provide for their children, yet struggled to access the basic resources needed to build a better life.
What stayed with her wasn’t just the hardship she witnessed. It was the determination of the people she met.
These were mothers, entrepreneurs, and community members with dreams for their families. They weren’t asking someone else to build their futures for them. They needed an opportunity to build those futures themselves.
Sister Toni believed there had to be a better way to help.
A Different Kind of Giving
Rather than focusing solely on temporary assistance, Sister Toni envisioned something more lasting: providing people with access to resources that would allow them to create sustainable livelihoods and greater independence.
A small loan could help a mother start a business. That business could provide income to feed her children, support their education, and create stability for her family.
And when that loan was repaid, the opportunity could extend to another person.
One opportunity could create another. One family could inspire change in an entire community. One gift could begin a ripple that continues for generations.
In 2006, that vision became Microfinancing Partners in Africa.
What started with a belief in the potential of people living in poverty grew into an organization dedicated to connecting generosity with sustainable opportunity.
Twenty Years Later, the Ripple Continues
Today, MPA works alongside trusted partners in Africa to expand access to financial loans, living loans, clean water, education, and healthcare initiatives.
While the programs have grown, the belief behind them remains unchanged:
Poverty should never determine a person’s potential.
For 20 years, donors, partners, and supporters have helped turn that belief into action. Their generosity has opened doors for individuals and families to build businesses, strengthen their communities, and work toward futures filled with greater possibility.
And behind every opportunity is a person with a story worth telling.
The Next Story Begins With You
As MPA celebrates its 20th anniversary, we’re sharing 20 stories that reflect the courage, resilience, and determination of the people at the heart of our mission.
We begin with Sister Toni because every ripple has a beginning.
But this story isn’t just about how MPA started. It’s about what becomes possible when someone chooses to believe in another person’s future.
Twenty years ago, that belief helped launch a mission. Today, it continues through the generosity of people like you.
There are still mothers dreaming of providing a better life for their children. Entrepreneurs ready to turn an idea into a livelihood. Families working toward a future where opportunity is within reach.
The next 20 years of stories are waiting to be written. And you can help make them possible.
Be part of the next ripple. Give the gift of opportunity today.
