Jane Nalwadda

Jane Nalwadda.

Jane Nalwadda is a 30-years old from the village of Kyaziza Busagula in Uganda. Jane was born with a natural obstetric fistula. After 3 years of a childless marriage, Jane`s husband left her. It was too hard for him to sustain a family without children. Jane’s husband married another woman and she was forced to move back to her parents’ home. Having lost all hope for the future of her life, Jane was depressed. An old friend of hers in the village, who benefitted from the Kitovu Fistula Program, told her about the program and medical care she could receive.  In August 2012, Jane went to the Kitovu hospital for treatment.

In 2015, Jane was presented with a piglet from the MPA Piglet Project. Jane’s piglet bore its first litter of 9 piglets, 5 male and 4 females. She gave 2 female piglets to her group and another female to the owner of the boar that served her pig.  She sold the male piglets plus the remaining female each at UGX 35,000 ($9 USD). She was able to raise another UGX 95,000 ($25 USD), which she used to construct a better pen for her pig. This allowed her to procure some maize brand to supplement the local feed for her pigs.

With such progress, Jane is very hopeful about her second litter. She plans to start up a restaurant and a small retail shop. She is so grateful and thankful to the MPA Piglet Project. “I am really happy for the tremendous life change I have gone through, thanks to MPA.” says Jane happily.
