From One Dozen to a Thriving Flock: Ajuna’s Journey to Economic Empowerment
In 2021, Ajuna made a life-changing decision. As a wife and mother, she saw the success of women in her community who had joined the Bukoba Women’s Empowerment Association (BUWEA) and decided to become a member herself. She dreamed of creating a better future for her family, and through BUWEA’s support—made possible by Microfinancing Partners in Africa (MPA)—she found her opportunity.
Ajuna received a starter flock of one dozen chickens from BUWEA. It was a humble beginning, but she nurtured her poultry with care and determination. After just five months, her chickens began laying eggs, and soon, she was collecting 25 to 30 eggs per week. As her flock grew, so did her success. By 2023, her poultry had multiplied to 56 chickens, producing 30 to 40 eggs daily. Today, she has an impressive 87 chickens in her shed, and her egg production continues to rise.
Through microfinancing and community support, Ajuna has built a sustainable source of income, providing for her family and inspiring other women in her village. She is deeply grateful to MPA and BUWEA for empowering her with the tools to succeed.
