We are jumping feet first into 2022. New year’s resolutions are all the chatter. Maybe charitable giving is on your radar. Could we resolve in 2022 to make a real difference together? If we work together, impactful change is possible. Here are four ways you can resolve to make a dent in eradicating poverty this year.
Pick a Charity You are Passionate About
Not sure where to start? Take stock of what you are passionate about. If you pick a charity you care deeply about you are more likely to stick with your giving resolutions. Your passions will direct you toward organizations, charities, and causes you would like to support. Take time to investigate a nonprofit’s operations; make sure they are being transparent. To vet a nonprofit you can use websites such as CharityWatch.org and Give.org.
Don’t forget that building a relationship with one organization is vital. You are investing in change. If you have a relationship with an organization you are more likely to follow up with them in the months or years to come.

Give Strategically
Make sure your giving is something that actually makes a difference. Giving to specific programs where your funds are held and designated until needed is great, however, many organizations have a “give where the need is greatest” fund which will mean your gift will immediately be used to create an impact.
If you are unable to donate money, take stock of what you do have to offer. Find a way to use your talents to help others. Reach out to the charity and ask how your time or talents could aid the cause you want to support.
Budget
It can be challenging to stick to a commitment. Why not set up monthly giving online? If your monetary donation is part of your monthly budget you are more likely to continue the giving. Once established you can adopt a “set it and forget it” mentality. If you have chosen to give of your time, plan your volunteering. If you say you are going to volunteer for an organization the third Thursday of the month, you set aside that time in your calendar and the organization can rely on you.
For our organization, we offer monthly giving opportunities and many women support other women monthly through our Women for Women program.
Establish Accountability
It is important to stay committed and the best way to do that is to have accountable friends. Involve your friends, co-workers, and family. Share your passion, your commitment, and ask them to help you stay on track. Maybe you will inspire them to step up and help too!!
