SAFE WOMEN ALTERNATIVE PROJECTS
Inspired by the Piglets for Post-Fistula Women project, SWAP is a new effort to support and engage groups of women in microfinance opportunities beyond animal husbandry. These include developing small businesses such as tailoring, hairdressing and catering. By the end of 2018, Microfinancing Partners in Africa supported ten women’s SWAP groups.
Women for Women has earmarked in October $762.69 for safe women alternative projects as this month’s allocation. THANK YOU!
With the average first time loan of $25, you have helped give 30 women a hand up!
RECENT PROJECT UPDATES
October of 2019, Microfinancing Partners in Africa board member, Dr. Sherry Teefey visited these projects in Africa and reports:
I’ve visited with the Kasozi Group yesterday. Some of the members are struggling with drought. We visited 14 different SWAP members and I am happy to report that all are doing very well. Many now have two projects, so if one does not bring inadequate income, they have a fallback with the other project. Many were into animal husbandry including chicks, rabbits and goats. Other women had retail businesses. One woman made and sold spirits made with sugarcane (a very high percentage of alcohol) another woman had computers and copying machines, and another had tables and chairs and dresses to support weddings. Overall, a wonderful success. The women were all so appreciative of what Microfinancing Partners in Africa has done for them.
