At the age of 27, you’ll see Siprose Anyango standing in her kiosk at the Kibuye Market, which is located in the heart of Kisumu, the third largest city in Kenya. While the small vendors at this market struggle because of the disruption and civil unrest following the 2017-2018 presidential election, Siprose is able to sell eggs and have a sustainable income.
Siprose, who was orphaned during her elementary school years, is a resilient young woman who, today, doesn’t take anything for granted. When both of her parents died an aunt took her in and raised her.
Today, Siprose is a faithful member of Yawezekana Sacco and an individual who is writing her own story of success despite the current economic landscape and her childhood hardships. With pride, Siprose saves about $2.90 USD daily from the sale of eggs at her market stand. Because of the easy access to microloans through Microfinancing Partners in Africa, she can continue to build her business and now sells at least 400 crates of eggs each week.
